 Cancellations Once the order is entered manufacturing has begun to build your customized rack. Each order is customized and built to fit your RV and your cargo. order a 50% cancellation fee will be charged if the order is cancelled for any reason after 2  days, before being shipped, in order to cover our costs for work in process. 

Returns on our custom built Yakups brand racks are not allowed for any reason.  All of our rack models are  customized, built to fit your RV, and carry your cargo that you have requested provide the cargo meets our recommendations. 

The original RV Rack System is manufactured in the United States by RVKR Development, LLC. by veterans to fit your RV and your specified kayaks, surfboards, and SUP needs. The stainless steel nose guards, accessories, and rack frame are customized and made to fit your RV and watercraft. Each rack is assembled and tested prior to shipping. The patented rack systems are 100% made in USA. Based on your information we do guarantee it  to fit your RV and cargo if any part does not fit we will exchange it with a replacement part with no charge.

What type of RV hitch receiver is required for the RV Kayak Racks?

For Vertical Kayak rack models KR2B56 and 2KR37W: Any FRAME MOUNTED 2" Class Three or higher rated in order to carry the total weight of the rack and cargo will suffice. (depending on rack plus cargo total weight ) Watercraft over 12' long are not recommended (see recommended lengths for each RV type below) 
For all models including OKR2B56 & KR2B56, you must have a 2" square receiver that will hold the total cargo weight you want to carry plus the rack weight.
Warning: Clamp on Bumper receivers and traditional 4" square bumpers are not strong enough to transport our racks models and cargo. RVKR Development, LLC does not assume responsibility for third party equipment failures. Our vertical racking systems are for use on RV Recreational camping vehicles only. The Yakups® brand rack systems are not designed for use on automobiles. If you need to add a Fifth wheel  frame mounted receiver here is a link for  fifth wheel trailers only.  In order to carry cargo on travel trailers you must contact your Travel trailer manufacturer for the maximum weight you can carry on the rear due to dangerous swaying that can occur with improper tongue weight occurring.

If I am purchasing kayaks, what Length is best? 

Below are recommended lengths for reasons mentioned and 12' is the longest watercraft that can be carried vertically.

If you have height concerns you can purchase a Garmin RV-760 GPS or similar model that allows you to input your total RV  Height to the upper end of your Kayaks and it will not route you down roads with bridges lower than your preset measurement !! Just Google Garmin RV- 760 for all RV owners safety!

We recommend buying the shortest length kayak possible you are happy with. There are several shorter kayaks available today, some even with skegs for tracking well in lakes while also able to be used in rivers. Kayaks with rear rudders load bow down in the stainless guards. We suggest that you measure your RV's height and consider that when purchasing your kayaks.

These are only recommendations and not exact lengths. It is based on the look of your rig when loaded so the kayaks don't stick up higher than you want. 

For Class A RV’s - recommended kayak length: 12'
For Class B RV’s - kayak length recommended: 10'
For Class C RV’s - kayak length recommended: 11 1/2'

Conversion Van -  kayak length recommended: 9'                           

Fifth Wheel Trailer - kayak length recommended is 11 1/2' & weight not over 70 lbs each.                 

 Truck Camper -  kayak length recommended: 10' 

If you want to use a tow bar &  tow a lightweight vehicle with your motor home RV a  the maximum kayak length of 11' long is allowed. Weight restrictions and Hitch strengths must be at least a Class four 500 lb carry weight or higher for vehicles 3800 lbs or less. This is more than double the vehicle weight.  

Tip: Use of a GPS for travel with RV's such as Garmin RV - 760 or similar is highly recommended on any RV with  or without our rack. You just set your height from the ground to the highest point and you will not get routed where there are low bridges!  Even with our recommendations some customers do carry 12' kayaks and have more of a concern with overhead clearances such as tree limbs etc. You may have a little more wind on the upper tip of the watercraft however they are positioned sideways for very little resistance.. Kayaks weighing over 65 lbs may not be as easy to load for many people and not recommended on Fifth Wheel trailers. Tying one end over the racks lower stainless guard then walking it upward in the vertical position is sometimes helpful in loading heavier kayaks.

Can I tow behind my RV Kayak Rack?

Towing while carrying cargo with a dual hitch is legal in some states. You cannot tow directly from or off of the RV Kayak Rack. The dual hitch extension bar is for use with flat towing TOW Bars only. The dual hitch extension bars are a solid shaft custom made dual hitch extension found on our accessory page. It is needed and made using a solid 2" bar for strength. This is for TOW bars only that do not add tongue weight on the hitch...  Please follow all of your RV manufacturer's recommendations regarding your RV towing ability and Hitch strength and capability.  It is NOT recommended to tow any type of Trailer that adds any downward force on the hitch receiver while using extension bars. Severe damage can occur on your hitch if you do this. 

  A class Four (500 lb min capacity tongue weight) or Five hitch receiver must be used depending on the total load you want to tow using your tow bar with an extension.  Your tow vehicle's receiver weight ratings are reduced by 25% per foot of extension lenght added.  This may cause you to exceed the safety limits especially when the  reduction capacity factor is considered.  Go to: eTrailer.com for ratings and more information to assist you in making the correct decisions.
 
Tip: Be aware of changes in turning radius and ground clearance as a result of adding a dual hitch. Also, all devices when added to your receiver will cut your carry weight and towing ability by 25% per foot.  THIS extension item MUST be USED with a Heavy Duty RECEIVER HITCH or receiver that meets safety standards for towing with your vehicles weight using the extension. Extensions cut towing capacity and Hitch Receiver ability by 50% of rating.Tow Bar towing means a bar  that goes out to your vehicle and does not apply any downward force or tongue weight downward on the hitch. Careful alignment must be done by the RV owner and the vehicle towed by your RV MUST HAVE the proper flat tow bar connected in a horizontal level fashion and thus with your tow bar in a straight alignment for braking. Damage can occur to your receiver or other connections if you do not follow this.  If needed a drop or riser must be used by you to get a level tow bar connection.   RVKR does not accept liability for third party equipment failure. Be sure to obey all third party manufacturer's equipment recommendations. Vehicles must have proper safety chains from them connecting to the Hitch receiver on your RV by law.  Always get expert advice from hitch and accessory suppliers due to safety concerns.

Does the RV Kayak Rack have to attach anywhere else on the RV other than the receiver tube?

No, our Rack is designed to only attach to your receiver tube that is designed to tow vehicles. Some add on frame mounted trailer hitch 2" receivers may require additional support. When assembled the rack is a solid one piece design and locks to your receiver with our heavy duty clamping block to help prevent wobble.

Does the RV Kayak Rack wobble in the wind?

What are they made of?

Our heavy duty racks are constructed from steel tubing with a special powder coating that will last the life of the rack. The bottom nose pans are stainless steel to protect your kayaks and prevent damage from uneven pavement due to parking lots, driveways and bumpy roads. The eye-bolts, Adjustable stainless guards, and hardware items are mostly all all stainless steel. Bungee cords with carabiner ends are also included to keep your kayaks snug. The bicycle racks are made from lightweight aluminum channel and come equipped with adjustable hooks to fit any adult or child sized bicycles. Special size bike racks can be added.

Three 1 1/2" wide, heavy velcro straps to hold each bike in place plus a steel hook at the top of the rail. This hook also holds your bike in place so your hands are free to tighten the straps. Any bike lock cable can be used to lock your bike to the rack. The kayaks are held down firmly in the stainless trays with vinyl coated steel cables and padlocks (supplied) to prevent loss while travelling or theft. 

Why are the RV Kayak Racks frames not made of aluminum?
We do have specific reasons for this. They are made with steel tubing so that there is very little flex when traveling down the road. After years of testing we found that with the steel frame there is only 1/2" of (flex) in the material while going 65 mph down the highway. Aluminum though, lighter could not withstand the stress of wind and movement while traveling.
 

How do I lock the kayaks and bikes in the RV Kayak Rack to help prevent theft?

A standard 6' heavy duty bike locking cable goes through the bike frames and around the upright steel post of the rack and locks. Bike covers are also available.
We include vinyl coated steel cables and locks for the Kayaks. The cable connects to the top of the kayaks upper handle and then it is wrapped tightly around and padlocked to the upper rack steel bars. These cables prevent the kayaks from lifting upward, loss while travelling, or theft.  The upper section also has a horizontal front bar that locks along with a safety chain after the bikes and kayaks are loaded. This bar also prevents a kayak from coming out of the rack in case of a strap failure.

If you decide to pick up your order arrangements will be made and a refund will be made for the shipping costs.

We ship by Fedex insured. The will be from $199.00 & up in the continental US. We can ship to Canada and Alaska and other countries. Call us for shipping costs outside the lower 48 states. A special invoice will be made for you if you purchase and ship outside the US lower 48 state areas.  All racks are shipped FOB Lake George, NY. Models KR2B56, KR37W, KR2B56S and OKR2B56 are shipped by FEDEX to your home. Package size is 58" x 38" x 15" .and weighs about 128 lbs including packaging not on a skid.   Please contact us with any questions or for a complete price quote via email. Proper loading of Fifth wheel trailers: Safety Recommendations

The total weight of your added trailer hitch device, rack, and cargo on the rear must be considered when using any cargo carrying device. Some lightweight shorter trailers, and frames may not be able to carry additional cargo weight. The proper loading and tongue weight on the front of each trailer type must be obtained in order to prevent dangerous swaying before traveling. This is obtained by properly loading your trailer with cargo through out in storage areas usually towards the front or hitch point on your tow vehicle. This includes adding extra supplies, batteries, propane, and other items as front cargo.

Travel trailers are much more of a concern than Fifth wheel trailers.  There are ways to weigh the tongue of the trailer with a scale to assure proper methods before traveling. ANY cargo placed on the rear of a Travel trailer can cause a dangerous situation..  Always follow your RV manufacturer's recommendations for the proper cargo weight allowed, loading, and tongue weight at the hitch point required for safe towing. Most Travel trailer manufacturers do not want you to add cargo weight on the rear at all on travel trailers.  These manufacturer recommendations  "must" be followed in order to be sure dangerous swaying does not occur. Your tow vehicle must also be the correct recommended size and weight for safe towing. Your individual state may have laws pertaining to this.
